NEPCO Lake: A Canadian Lake in Central Wisconsin
Most of you visiting our website still have not found that perfect lake…until now.
Imagine boating, skiing, fishing, sailing, canoeing, and swimming on 500 acres of water surrounded by gigantic white pine . The park-like setting surrounding the lake provides an attractive timeless atmosphere. Most visitors compare NEPCO Lake to a lake you would only expect in Ontario, Canada not in central Wisconsin. Don’t take our word for it. One of the Midwest’s outboard motor manufacturers used to film its commercials on NEPCO Lake in the 1970’s. The commercials referred to NEPCO Lake as a Canadian Lake.
Prior to our developments, fewer than five properties on NEPCO Lake had changed hands in the last 50 years. Most of the homeowners on NEPCO Lake are descendants of the founders of the Nekoosa Edwards Paper Company.
NEPCO Lake was built in the 1920s by the Nekoosa Edwards Paper Company (NEPCO) to provide ultra clean water for making white paper. NEPCO Lake was built using horse drawn wagons and tractors. More than thirty teams of horses were used at any given time. To this day water flows out of the lake into a pipe…it is then pumped south of NEPCO Lake all the way to Nekoosa, WI where it is used to make white paper. This water is REALLY clear.
NEPCO Lake is wedged in between two championship golf courses (The Ridges and Bull’s Eye Country Club), the Wisconsin River, and a small local airport. The reputations of the lake and Bull’s Eye Country Club are legendary in the paper industry where each week for 65 years paper salesmen from NEPCO entertained their best clients from around the world.
